Nokia 8801, You've Got to Be Kidding Me

"It's a reflection of you...what you think...what you feel...who you are."
"Your mobil connection to the world."
"Do you hold it, or does it hold you?"

All quotes from a CELL PHONE COMMERCIAL. Click to watch.

Is anyone else disgusted by this? Do people really fall for this shallow, material crap? Am I blowing things out of perportion? Did I spell proportion right?

This my friends, is the Nokia 8801 cell phone, which you can buy from nokia.com...at $800 they're practically giving them away!

Now, I will admit the phone does look cool. But I have lost sleep over the fact that a company would spend lots of money riding on the fact that people will buy the idea that their phone defines them. I'm reminded of the Parable of the Rich fool here. I think that Nokia's question is a very appropriate one:

Do we own our stuff, or does our stuff own us?

Preach it brother! It is unbelievable how gullible we can be. The advertisers are masters at exploiting this weakness that we've developed over time. Even with our phones we have to "keep up with the Jones'". We gotta fight back! Keep your old phone.

If they sell these phones, they will think this type of sales ploy works. We should boycott Nokia, were Christians right? That's what we do right? Hmmmm ... I think I am on to something. We'll make the picket signs on the missions trip!!!
